Inquiring Minds Want to Know

? I already have more business then I can handle.  I am a small business.  Why would I want a web site to increase my business?
Two reasons:

1) It is a bad  assumption to believe that business will always continue at the same level.  Quite to the contrary, all businesses will go through cycles.  You don't want to lead the cycle to the downside when it occurs.  By the time you think you need advertising, it is often too late.

2) Supply and Demand.  The more demand, the more you can charge for your product or service which translates to higher returns on your efforts, or reduced hours of work with the same return.

? How do you tell the difference between a good web site and a bad web site?
A good web site should be immediately appealing to the eye, easy to move around without sending people into web space, and provide good content.
?
Why do I need a Web Site Development Company  to maintain my site?  Can't I just build my own site and maintain it myself with all the free web sites and tools?
In most cases, No.  Only a small % of people can build and maintain their own web site professionally and effectively.

Your web site is a reflection of your business and the products or services that you provide.  It needs to present a professional image that makes you and your employees proud.

An unappealing, poorly constructed web site is just like trying to sell an old oil smoking wreck; you may get a lot of comments and lookers, but you may not get many buyers.

1) Most people will make more money by concentrating on doing what they do best rather then spending weeks or months getting through the Internet learning curve.

2) High quality web sites are not that easy to build and keep fresh.  Your site should be appealing, easy to navigate and is updated.

3) The Internet is constantly changing and requires on-going education that requires significant effort to stay abreast.

4) Many free web sites are not free, have a small amount of megabytes, transfer rates, may require banner ads, or have other unknown requirements they can add at any time to the detriment of your web site..

5) We have regular requests by businesses of all sizes to take over their web site and/or to finish construction, then maintain it.  Most web designers and developers do not want to take over someone else's problems or convert their tools to their own.

Final Note: If you love the internet, enjoy the learning curve and challenge, and are willing to give the time; then give it a shot.

? What is the best way to market a web site?
Your web site should be provided wherever there is a communication with current or potential customers: advertising materials, business cards, outside signage, on recorded messages, letters, forms, etc.
? Shouldn't a web site market itself with Search Engines?  Why do I need to do all of these other things?

We encourage the use of search engines to facilitate marketing most products and services.  But search engines are just a part of an overall successful marketing program for most businesses.

However, a good web site, properly promoted, can facilitate closing sales and work while your are sleeping.  It allows busy people to see what you have to offer without traveling or chasing information.  It can be a permanent electronic record on their computer system that is easy to find.  It makes it easy for customers to refer your products or services to others.

What would you prefer?  A customer or potential customer who knows who you are and what you have to offer with your web address already in their computer, or hope you are the one that shows up first upon searching the Internet.

I know the names of Amazon.com, AOL.Com, and Microsoft.Com through advertising on TV, etc., not though search engines.  Good marketing programs work.  No matter how big or small you are, you have to tell people who you are, where you are, and how they can find you.

? Do Search Engines work?
Yes, but keep realistic expectations.  The Internet is a big place with constantly changing rules.  Top listings with major search engines may require additional marketing dollars or competitive bidding.  In either event, we feel that it is important to be indexed so that you can be found.  We advocate  monthly submissions to search engines to keep promulgating your web site.  We are still in the very early stages of Internet development, and if you snooze - you may very well lose.  You need to be there!   Willy Web has an excellent record of obtaining high ranks on major search engines.
? How long does it take for a Search Engines to list my site?
It can take anywhere from 2 to 4 months  just to get indexed with many major search engines.  However, we have received claims of web sites being found as soon as several days after submission.  Every search engine has their own approval process and backlogs of submissions can occur.
? What is the difference between Small Business Web Sites and a E-commerce Web Sites?
A business web site is designed to convey information about products and/or services.  An e-commerce web site typically will have a number of products that it is trying to sell over the Internet via an e-store.  An e-store will usually contain a database for managing purchases, such as, a shopping cart.
? What is the server fee?
A server fee is the charge for hosting and administering (maintaining) the server on an on-going basis.  Servers typically require daily maintenance.  The server fee is completely separate from web site maintenance.
? Why are back-up files important?
Back-up files are very important in order to insure minimum loss of access time should a major disaster strike resulting in loss of servers and/or web site files.   Not all servers are created equal.  Back-up and restore are not necessarily included with all servers.
